Why Wedding Traditions Matter

Updated: Sep 25, 2023

There’s nothing like the cultural and religious symbolism that’s woven into the tapestry of weddings celebrated throughout the world. By having a wedding ceremony, you will provide yourself, your loved one, and your every wedding guest with a powerful gift of love. Though it is not as highly important to keep wedding traditions, we still find wedding traditions dear, like the phrase “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue”. Whether you’re up for a classic or modern wedding, retaining old traditions are still fun. Here are some wedding traditions that have stood the test of time.

The White Wedding Dress

All brides are now wearing white wedding dresses, but back in the ages, it used to be red. It was when Queen Victoria married Prince Albert that this tradition ended. Since then, white wedding dresses have taken place as a symbol of purity.

The Wedding Veil

It was said back in history that Roman brides used to be afraid that evil spirits would be jealous of their happiness and would cast a spell on them. With that, it became a tradition that brides would wear veils to conceal themselves from evil spirits. In the modern days, veils aid for the bride’s dramatic entrance into the wedding venue.

The first look

It has been a long belief that the bride and the groom should never see each other before the ceremony because if they do, bad luck will happen.

The wedding rings

Back in the days, only the groom could put a ring on a bride’s finger. It didn’t take long that both the bride and groom were given the privilege of putting rings on each other’s fingers.

The wedding bouquet

In the olden days, herbs and spices were what brides used to bring to ward off evil spirits. Since nobody believed in evil spirits, brides started to bring a bouquet of flowers instead of the herbs and spices.

Even though some of the wedding traditions have died down with the passing years, some are still very important, especially for elder family members. They also create a sense of togetherness and a shared experience with the family members. And although many of the wedding traditions no longer exist or are no longer binding to the modern brides and grooms, we believe that somehow they exist in every wedding. We can help you modernize them or keep them if they speak to your heart.

We wholeheartedly believe in utterly romantic wedding design and that wedding traditions will make your celebration stand the test of time and create the loveliest wedding memories to cherish forever!
